WILDERNESS MEDICINE

Wilderness First Responder

Wilderness First Responder and Wilderness First Responder Recertification course in Southwest Colorado

80-hour hybrid field & self-study course

This hybrid Wilderness First Responder course offers the flexibility of online learning paired with the depth and rigor of in-person training. It’s an ideal format for those who want to build strong medical and decision-making skills without committing to a full two-week course.

You’ll begin with 30 hours of self-paced, interactive online coursework that lays the foundation for understanding wilderness medicine protocols and principles. Then, we’ll meet in Ridgway, Colorado for five full days of immersive, hands-on instruction. Through realistic scenarios and practical skill sessions, you’ll learn how to assess patients, stabilize life-threatening conditions, and provide extended care in remote environments.

Whether you’re a guide, educator, outdoor professional, or outdoor enthusiast, this course prepares you to act with clarity and confidence when it matters most. You’ll leave with the tools, mindset, and certification to be a reliable partner in any backcountry emergency.
