San Juan Huts Backcountry Ski Trip

Escape to a backcountry hut and ski untouched lines.

The five San Juan Huts dot the impressive landscape on the north side of the Sneffels Range.

Basecamp at one backcountry hut or traverse between several for a hut to hut experience.

These huts provide access to ski terrain untouched by day skiers; ski off ridgetops, through alpine glades, or down open bowls and nestle by fire at night.

Our guides know the San Juan Huts & their surrounding terrain better than any other guide service in the industry. Your guide will work with you to craft a private ski trip for you or your group at the hut that best matches everyone’s goals and abilities.

SAMPLE ITINERARY

Day One
Ski into Last Dollar Hut, time and conditions permitting ski some of the chutes around Last Dollar.

Day Two
Last Dollar Hut to North Pole Hut via mount Hayden

Day Three
North Pole Hut to Blue Lakes Hut via Birdland or Little Matterhorn

Day Four
Blue Lakes Hut to Ridgway Hut via Mount Sneffels or Reconnoiter Peak

Day Five
Ski out to Ridgway from the Ridgway Hut. We plan to be back in town by 4pm.

Trip Length
3 or 4 day trip.

Group Size
This is a private trip. The huts hold a maximum of 8, including guides. You must reserve the whole hut so it’s just our group.

Departure Time
8:00 a.m.

Meeting Location
We will perform a gear check the day before the trip start date. Please check with us for the meeting location.

Meals/Food
You are responsible for your personal snacks during the trip. We will provide breakfast, appetizers, and dinner.

Equipment List
We can provide Avalanche Safety Equipment (transceiver, probe, shovel)
